Love Canal by Lois Gibbs is a documentary about a women who shares her story and struggle about her community in Niagara Falls, NY. In 1978 she began her journey to discover that the local elementary school her son was attending was built on this toxic wasteland. Many healthy children were developing disorders and newborns had birth defects. The issue was that The Hooker Chemical Company sold the site for $1 to the City twenty five years ago. This was one of the most devastating environmental tragedies in history and there may be many more similar sites. These dumpsites are like ticking time bombs and who will take ownership if they do occur again? It's a must read for those interested in environmental policy and social justice.
